Emily + Heath
Southern Blue-Inspired Finest Destination Wedding Photography Playa Mujeres | Emily + Heath
Emily and Heath come from southern roots, so they wanted a southern-inspired wedding, in the Carribbean! How did she do it? Let's let Emily explain, "The traditional Southern blue wedding was definitely an inspiration for me. Heath's family is spread across Memphis and Little Rock and mine, across Dallas and Atlanta and many other Southern cities. We have deep Southern roots on both sides and the traditional blue Southern wedding dates way back and is a beautiful tradition It was very important to me to play up. When we were in the planning phases of our wedding, I found myself saying that we wanted to throw "a Southern wedding dropped into Mexico." I think we accomplished it. The Southern touch was definitely present in our floral decisions as well. We used a lot of garden flowers like delphinium, bluebells, and hydrangeas, garden roses and lisianthus. Our florist, Vanessa from Pistilo Florals even incorporated vining wisteria in our floral alter. Wisteria blooms for a very short period every spring in Atlanta is a beautiful break of winter to look forward to. I love that it is also native to Mexico! Our flowers were an element unto themselves and I loved that our guests noted them throughout the evening. Details like tying the bouquets with hand-dyed silk ribbons were not left unnoticed. Those details added a level of romance and care that I know our friends and family felt, too. A few other Southern winks and nods: a Golf Ball Groom's Cake at the Rehearsal Dinner, our signature cocktails - always a champagne cocktail, a French 75, for the bride and a boozy Arnold Palmer for the groom (affectionately called a John Daly), hand-embroidered handkerchiefs with personal messages gifted to the mother-of-the-bride, father-of-the-bride, and groom by the bride. The parents of the bride are not only featured guests at the wedding, but the hosts of the entire day. They are the ones who made every little detail possible. Special thanks must be given and appreciation shown. It is truly their party. In lieu of a classic in memoriam section of the program, we opted for a library setting of precious family photos of those who have passed away and therefore not physically there with us for the day. We included grandparents and aunts and uncles, cousins and best friends, and beloved family friends. I took a moment between dinner and the cake cutting to walk over and have a meditation with them. They are each missed every day and especially on that day. We walk with recent and raw grief, but know that these precious souls would be there celebrating with the best of them if they had their choice. I will never forget the time I spent with each of their memories. We were in love with all the details and fine touches, that Emily thought of for her wedding day! Congratulations to the Mr. and Mrs.!
