Azul Fives Blush Wedding was the perfect blend of colors, cultures, families, and emotions! Maryam has always wondered about her soulmate. As a young woman, she enjoyed visiting fortune tellers to inquire about her future love, but not even the best clairvoyant could predict her future. Maryam and Chris met through an online dating application, like many others in today’s times. However, they chose to procure their friendship for the first few months as electronic penpals. Finally, they met briefly (and ironically) on Valentine’s Day, but had other things going on.
Maryam took a trip to visit family in Iran, and upon her arrival; Chris remained present and interested. The two friends shared their love of amusement parks, long strolls on the Great America and Santa Cruz Boardwalks, and they truly started to share most of their free time together. They officially became a couple when Maryam accepted an invitation to Chris’ company party. Chris explains,
“We celebrated a fun holiday season, where we both met the other’s local family for the first time. 2016 with Maryam was an amazing ride. We went on a few vacations, finally culminating with a trip to visit her parents and family in Iran. It was leading up to that trip that I was certain I wanted to spend the rest of my life with Maryam”.
Maryam and Chris brought their family and close friends to witness them declare their love for one another in a beautiful beach wedding at Azul Fives Hotel in Playa del Carmen. With a soft palette of pinks and blushes, Maryam brought her Persian traditions to the Aghd (ceremony). Maryam and Chris seated on a bench while the bridesmaids hold the sofre (tablecloth) over their heads. This is perhaps the most important element of a Persian wedding, and what makes it unique from all others in the world. Laid out in front of them is the sofreyé aghd (symbolic table) which contains highly symbolic items. Emotions were high, Chris did his best to speak Farsi, and at last; they kissed passionately as husband and wife.
It was a truly a day to remember for all, where two cultures, families, and people came together to celebrate as one. Congratulations Maryam and Chris!
