Plan your day around the sunset. We recommend that your Ceremony starts 1.5 hours prior to sunset. This gives us perfect time and gorgeous warm light for sunset portraits as well as nice temperature for your cocktail hour. Want to know when the sun sets on your day? Find out here: Sunset Times
You may not be interested in the Getting Ready, but it is crucial for us and our storytelling style. This time isn’t just to capture you getting into your dress or having your hair done. It’s actually our time to meet the key players of your life and day. It’s our time to also capture the details that we won’t have time to when the day get’s going. While you may not think your Dress, Shoes, or Wedding Rings are important to capture now, we know you’ve spent tons of time and money planning all of these little details and you’ll be glad to have them photographed (trust us on this one)!!
Part 2? We know you didn’t want any Getting Ready before this, but there’s one more point we’d like to make. Be practically done getting ready by the time we arrive and please, please, please tidy up your getting ready space so your pictures come out clean and beautiful (think Pinterest). Ah, and don’t forget to Eat! But most importantly be ready to put on your dress and your best smile. We know you’re shy, so having your hair and make up done by the time we get there means you’re already well on your way to looking absolutely beautiful. Hesitant about dressing in front of us? We can leave the room for a moment or close our eyes, but we’re going to come back in to capture mom as she’s crying tying up your dress – trust us, it’s these kind of moments you’re going to cherish F-O-R-E-V-E-R.
Whether you’re having a civil, symbolic, mayan or religious ceremony, consider how it will look in photos. If you’re having a sound system, consider wireless mics so you don’t have a ginormous black stick in front of your face the whole ceremony. Also consider facing your guests. They didn’t fly from all over the world to see your backside while you exchange your vows of love. Besides, with the exception of a close family friend who may officiate a ceremony, you and your guests are what you really want photographed.
For the love of all that is wholesome in this universe – kiss each other like you’ve never done before (who cares if grandma is watching). Hold it for a ridiculously long time. Gentlemen, dip her if you’re feeling exceptionally showy! We love the candidness of the first kiss, but we also need a fighting chance to capture it. If it lasts a nano-second, you’ll be mad at us….girl-scout promise.
Please have them!!! It’s one of our favorite moments to capture. Your ceremony is just completed, your adrenaline is running HIGH and your family and friends can’t wait to tell you how happy they are for you. Let them. If we’ve planned according to Tip 1, there’s still plenty of light to get some fun portraits of just the two of you! We love them. We love to have fun with them. We want you to do so as well. We also know that likely your entire family wants to get in on the action. This can be tough for all involved. You get back images where someone isn’t looking at the camera, or their eyes are closed… For this we break portraits down into two parts: Family & Couple’s Portraits. Just before we start, have one of your girls fix your hair, retouch makeup and make sure you have nothing in your teeth..
We limit the family portrait time to usually about 15 minutes, so give your list of “must haves” to a Bridesmaid, or your coordinator. This will help us make sure we don’t miss one that is important. We’ll kindly ask your guests to allow us to do what you’re paying us for. All eyes are on us, then we let the crowds get a second or two as well.
After the Family & Wedding Portraits, we ask that you send your guests to the cocktail hour. Let them get a few munchies and give us a little alone time to capture some sexy portraits just as the sky is getting gorgeous. Regardless of where you’re getting married, the light about 30 minutes before sunset is soft, sazzy and colorful – let’s take advantage of it!! We’ll take as long as you want as we know you might want to enjoy your cocktail hour too.
Whether you’re having a sit down 8 course meal or a buffet style dinner, plan on having some speeches during your dinner. It gives us something to capture during this time, it also gives your guests a little entertainment. We also ask to be fed at the same time as you are, and somewhere nearby. It doesn’t need to be fancy, just something for us to take a few minutes to refuel and be close enough to not miss a moment.
A great time to do your first dance is just before dinner, as it acts as a great transition from the ceremony to dinner. But if that’s not possible, for sure right after dinner is great too! Just make sure it’s all about you.
Make it lively and enjoy it!!! We’ll be sure to capture the fun. If you’re doing some of the more traditional party ideas: Cake Cutting, Bouquet/Garter Toss, etc… let us know a few minutes in advance so we can be ready with some creative light for the action and fun.
Please be dressed and ready to start shooting upon arrival. Eat a healthy meal about an hour before your shoot – but not too big! You don’t want to be in a full-blown food coma during your shoot. Bring your lipstick and powder in case you need to retouch between shots.
We want you to be as natural as you can be. Who really loves stiff and formal portraits? We’ll give you some direction during the shoot, we always have ideas. But for sure we want you to be relaxed and in love and pretend we are not there. If you are goofy and silly, let it be!!
We recommend that you wear solid colors. Try to avoid crazy patterns on clothes, they don’t always photograph well. If you have props or personal items that are special to you, we welcome them and would love to incorporate them into your shoot. Need ideas? Pets, Umbrellas, Toys for kids, Fun Shoes, anything that is meaningful to you can be fun!
All of our packages come with a set of Hi-Resolution Images for you to print at the lab of your choosing. The collection will also contain the same images, but in a smaller size and with our studio branding, for use on social media sites. We want your friends and family to know who your great photographers are, so please only use the Web Optimized images for online sharing. You will also be showcased on our blog. We’ll make a slideshow of our personal favorites so you can have a link that is easy to share with friends and family.
Some packages come with Albums and or Prints. Please check the details of your package on your contract for specifics.
We will always retain ownership of all images captured, as artists this is our right of creation. But of course you’ll have the right to print your images for personal use. Have a website or magazine that wants to use these images for commercial publication? Let us know, we’re always happy to help. Please review your contract for further copyright details.
We only reserve dates when a contract has been signed and a retainer has been paid. Because we work on a first paid & signed = first reserved basis, our dates can fill up quickly. We normally only accept bookings up to 12 months prior to the shoot date, and the retainer due is 50% of the entire package amount.
We love to travel, but it costs us like it costs you. We charge travel fees beyond 150km of our home base in Playa del Carmen. Tell us where you would like us to go and we’ll let you know the costs involved.
We have a lovely group of people we work with regularly. Let us know what you’re looking for and we’ll see if we can find a great match for your desires.
We shoot with professional Canon gear. Currently that consists of multiple 6D MK IIs, a mix of fast Canon lenses and Flashes, and always have back up gear in case something goes wrong.
We often are asked what are the megapixels of our cameras. Since most people don’t fully understand what that means, and because even the cameras we shoot with are 21mp Cameras, what makes more sense is to put it into terms easy for everyone to understand. File size of all final images vary on a variety of factors. We guarantee that all images delivered will print beautifully at least at 30cm x 45cm. Most of these files we’ve printed Billboard size, so don’t worry, you’re getting the highest quality.
While we don’t always have the schedule flexible to meet with everyone, we love to!! Give us a ring and we’ll see if it’s possible to schedule a meeting a couple of days before your I-do’s.
We promise final delivery between 8 – 12 weeks after your shoot date. We know it sounds like an insanely long time, but perfection can’t be rushed and we want to make sure you have the best product. If we can deliver sooner, we promise we’ll try.
We as your artists do. 🙂 We all know that we shoot far more than we deliver. This is a professional choice that we make to deliver only the best images from your day. There are always images that are permanently deleted that will never see the light of day. These are usually deleted because the image is out of focus, poorly exposed, or Aunt Xavi’s elbow is in the frame covering your face. We promise to look out for both of our best interests when making this selection. We promise a certain number of photos for each package based on our proven shooting methods, but know it’s an estimate. If we end up with more images that are simply spectacular beyond what we promised, we’ll deliver those too.
We do not deliver unedited images nor do we deliver all the images, ever. This is our right as artists and we view it like asking Frida Khalo to have her paint and canvas but still calling your painting a Frida Khalo portrait. She wouldn’t have done it and neither do we. We deliver edited files in a format created by imaging industry specialists called JPEG. It’s a standard format with a long history that works on all computing platforms.
We always recommend making a copy of all of your files and keeping them in a safe place. As technology changes, people move, and computers crash, it is always great to have a back up of your most valuable memories. We keep files backed up for 1 year after delivery to you, so if a replacement is required, we can deliver at a cost of $100 USD for the USB Drive including shipping.
If your package contained an Album or Prints, or if you’ve purchased them after the fact, we’ll work together to make sure your Albums/Prints are professional quality with your design/image preferences in mind. Send us an email for examples and further instructions.
